General Information

Below you will find general information about the hall, information about some of the regular activities, and a list of the nearby Viables Craft Centre units.

Viables Craft Centre can be found on the southern side of Basingstoke only minutes from the A30, near to the A339 Alton Road and junction 6 of the M3.  It is well signposted in the locality. A location map is to the right, or alternatively use the map links at the top and bottom of this page.

Community facilities are available for hire both by organisations and individual members of the public.

Location
Viables Community Centre is located within the Viables Craft Centre in a tranquil and rural location not far from the town centre, with ample free parking on site. The site was once a farm.

Opening Hours
0900 – 0030 hours, 7 days a week.

Function Rooms
The Barn and the smaller Four Lanes Room are regularly used by a wide variety of location organisations.  Both are available for hire as is the Education Unit. There is also a paddock alongside the Centre that can be used for large outdoor events.

The Barn
Is ideal for weddings, christenings, birthday celebrations, corporate and family social occasions, craft fairs, large classes, sales and other public events.

The hall is basically rectangular in shape, measures approximately 15.5 x 12.5 metres, with a small stage (5.20 x 2.15 metres) at one end and a serving hatch (to bar) at the other.

Off the main entrance lobby to The Barn, there is a modestly equipped kitchen.  Facilities include sink, electric cooker, microwave, larder fridge, urns and kettles. (Please note that no crockery or cutlery is included or provided by the centre).  The Barn is licensed for up to 200 people, sitting comfortably 170 guests.

There is a disabled access ramp to the main entrance and disabled provision in the toilet block which is accessed internally.

The Four Lanes Room
This is a smaller function room suitable for club or committee meetings, training courses, small classes, workshops, children’s parties etc.

The room is rectangular in shape and measures approximately 12.4 x 5.8 metres. It has access to the Barn.  There is a sink unit with hot & cold water facilities and some crockery, but no access to the kitchen.  It is licensed for up to 100 people.

Access for people with disability is provided internally via the toilet block corridor, and externally via a ramp at the rear.

The Education Unit
This is self-contained and is situated across the yard from the main building.  It is a useful committee room capable of seating 10 – 12 people. It is also used for band practice and small local sewing/art and craft groups.  It has an adjoining kitchen fitted with microwave, fridge and electric kettle.  Cups and saucers are also available.

There is a disabled ramp access to one door.  Users do have access to the toilets but they are in the main building.

Rear Lobby
This contains the toilets and disabled amenities.  Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council upgraded these facilities in the first part of 2005 along with the installation of a new boiler and soundproofing between The Barn and The Four Lanes Room.

Environment, Health & Safety
In line with the new legislation, the Barn, Four Lanes Room and Education Unit are all designated non smoking areas.

Licensing Arrangements
Because of licensing arrangements, hirers are not permitted to bring their own alcohol onto the premises.  A bar can be provided for an event at a cost of £50. The premises are licensed for the sale of alcohol between 1200 – 0000 hours, 7 days a week.
Extensions are allowed up to 12 times a year for late bookings.

Our caretaker is Trish Golding (07919 081624).

EARTHA WORKSHOPS AND PROJECTS
Unit 12 at Viables

Greg and Gwyneth

All the classes and workshops we hold are about ‘earth spirituality’.  To tell you a little about ourselves:

Gwyneth is a healer and complementary health practitioner, with 20 years experience in aromatherapy, colour therapy, crystal healing, reiki healing and reflexology. She began teaching workshops for adult education about 4 years ago.   Greg is a professionally trained drummer and contemporary shaman.

What we are currently doing:

Native Spirit Meditation – held on Monday beginning at 6.45 to 7.45pm.  The meditation is so called because ‘Native’ is to the land – the earth – connecting to your essence – your ‘spirit’.  Meditation is held in sacred circle and guided and facilitated by Greg.  It is a wonderful opportunity to connect to our essence, our spirit, and to feel calm, relaxed and peaceful.  Find out more on www.soaringeagles.ws

Crystal Journeys – held on Mondays beginning at 8pm until 9pm.  There are now two groups who work alternately.  Crystal journeys is about connecting to crystal energies through attunement, meditation, crystal grids and layouts, and most importantly through working with the crystals in between the sessions.  Every session we bring in two new crystals to work with, and it is great to share our experiences and journeys with each other!  We can get to learn so much about ourselves and our spiritual growth through working with these beautiful gifts from the Earth.

Native Spirit Journey Drums – a circle4drums project.  Started on 20th March and runs from 8pm to 9pm.  This is an exploration of using the drum to experience and learn more about our connection to Great Spirit and Mother Earth.  The drum helps to release stress and helps to regain balance in your life.  The frame drums are at the core of this group, but other percussion instruments are also used. No experience necessary.

Reiki Share – 2nd Wednesday of each month from 7.30pm to 9pm.  All reiki practitioners welcome.  Come and share reiki and have a cup of tea afterwards.  A great opportunity to meet like-minded people and get some healing!

You can contact us on:  01256 334102 (Greg) and 07817 437973
Or email: crystals2inspire@yahoo.co.uk (Gwyneth)
